The Feed-a-Kayayo Project, which was initiated by the Ghana COVID-19 Private Sector Fund (the GCPSFund), has come to an end effective April 13, 2020.

The 12-day initiative which commenced from April 1 to 12, 2020 came as a response to government’s call on the private sector to provide a meal a day for head-porters also known as 'Kayayei' and other underprivileged persons during the lockdown period.

In a statement by the GCPSFund and copied to GhanaWeb explained; “With the roll out of the feeding programme by the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection, the Trustees of the Ghana COVID-19 Private Sector Fund have decided to end the ‘Feed-a-Kayayo’ project effective 13th April 2020”

The GCPSFund says it will now turn its attention to another initiative; “Protect and Resource the Frontline” project which focuses on delivering personal protective equipment to hospitals and centres treating and caring for COVID-19 patients.

According to the GCPSFund, the project will also see the construction of a 100-bed isolation and treatment facility at the Ga East Hospital which serves as the National COVID-19 Treatment Centre.
