A 12-year-old leader of a gang of armed robbers has been reportedly arrested by the police. The suspect, whose identity is yet to be revealed, reportedly led a gang of thieves to rob students of the Mampong Midwifery and Nursing Training College.
According to a report by MyNewsGH.com, he was arrested together with a 19-year-old man known as Kwame Frimpong, with whom he laid ambush and robbed students.
The Mampong Divisional Motor Transport and Traffic Directorate (MTTD) Commander, Superintendent Isaac Baah, stated that the armed suspects always hide under the cover of darkness to attack their victims who are students and disposes them of their belongings including mobile phones and handbags.
Both suspects, he added, have since been released on bail after being identified by some of the victims as persons said to be terrorizing students on the campus.
Superintendent Baah however expressed surprised about the reluctance of the victims to cooperate with the police in the investigations. That, he went on to say, was the reason behind the decision to grant them bail.
Meanwhile, a 6pm to 6am police patrol team has been permanently stationed at the school, with Community Police Assistants assigned to all hostels to guard and escort the students to and from classes at night to halt the recurring robberies.
