Fifteen persons have been injured as alleged land guards assaulted residents and destroyed building foundations in Abakrampa, located in the Abura Asebu Kwamankese District of the Central Region. This violence has led some fear-stricken residents to consider vacating the Abura Abakrampa Community.
Residents report that they were at their homes when suspected land guards, armed with weapons such as pistols, cutlasses, shockers, and pepper spray, stormed the area where they were constructing their houses. The land guards vandalized properties, severely beating masons and others present.
It is reported that these suspected land guards, numbering about ten, are frequently seen at the Chief of Abura Abakrampa's Palace, allegedly under the chief's protection.
In an interview with Kasapa News, some residents stated that these suspected land guards have been regularly harassing them without provocation in the Abura Abakrampa Community, claiming that the land guards have been present in the community for months, always armed.
The residents, expressing their fear and panic, are concerned that worse incidents may occur. Some have noted that their properties, such as palm trees and cocoa plants, have been destroyed without their knowledge.
They hold the Paramount Chief of Abura Abakrampa responsible for all the incidents and assert that they will retaliate against the land guards if no action is taken to address the ongoing brutality.
Residents have observed that anyone who speaks out against the brutality of the suspected land guards receives merciless beatings. They describe the land guards as consistently wearing military trousers, face masks, and military scarves.
Appeals have been made to the Inspector General of Police, President Akufo-Addo, the National Security Coordinator, the National House of Chiefs, and the Central Regional House of Chiefs for urgent intervention, as the maltreatment and harassment by the land guards have become unbearable. They warn that if the situation is not addressed, they will take matters into their own hands.
Despite several reports to the Abura Dunkwa Police Command, residents express frustration over the lack of action taken.
The Chief of Abura Abakrampa and Paramount Chief of the Abura Traditional Area, Nana Otu VII, has responded to these allegations, clarifying that the individuals in question are not land guards but military personnel assigned to provide security for him.
The Chief also mentioned that a court had instructed residents to vacate certain portions of Abakrampa land.
Meanwhile, residents are demanding action, threatening to escalate the situation if nothing is done to resolve the alleged maltreatment and harassment by the suspected land guards, which has left them living in fear and panic.
