An 18-year-old man, Mbornlen Abass, also known as Agogo, reportedly hanged himself while in police custody in Bimbilla, Nanumba North District of the Northern Region, according to Citinewsroom.com.

Abass was arrested by the police on Tuesday, June 25, 2024, after an accusation by Pinimkpel Nampar, who claimed Abass had stolen GH¢2,000 from him.

Despite Abass denying the theft, he was kept in a police cell overnight.

Sources say an officer left to get food for Abass but returned to no response when he called for him. When the cell was opened, the officer found Abass's lifeless body hanging from the ceiling with a blanket.

The deceased's body was taken to Bimbilla Hospital for preservation. Regional and Divisional Police Commanders visited the scene on Wednesday, June 27.

Abass has since been buried.
