Two persons have been arrested by the Sakumono District Police for allegedly snatching a taxi from its driver at Baatsona on the Spintex Road.
Justice Gideon Tswerefour, 23 and Rockson Paddy, 22, both unemployed, are the suspects who snatched the Nissan Almera cab with registration number GT 6321-13 from the driver but were arrested by neighbours in the area.
The suspects are residents of Ashaiman Zongo Laka and Ashaiman Valco Flat respectively.
Police retrieved from them a bag containing replica plastic pistol, screw driver, a pair of pliers, knife, nylon rope and other dangerous implements used in embarking on the criminal operation.
Superintendent Alex Wowolo, Sakumono District Police Commander, told DAILY GUIDE that on September 19, 2013 at about 7:00pm, a cabbie who had gone on his usual routine was hired by the suspects to take them to Kingdom Hall of the Jehovah Witnesses at Kotobabi Number Two in Baatsona.
The police boss noted that upon reaching a section of the road, Justice pulled a knife on the driver and ordered him to stop the vehicle. The driver refused and struggled with him. In the course of the struggle, Rockson, who was seated behind the driver, joined his colleague to overpower the driver.
However, the driver managed to stop the car, alighted and took to his heels raising the alarm for help. The suspects also alighted upon sensing danger, took to their heels and abandoned their bag in the car.
Superintendent Wowolo further explained that the residents were able to arrest Rockson while Gideon escaped. Rockson was brought to the police station. The abandoned bag, when opened, revealed a rope intended to tie the driver after snatching the car and the aforementioned implements for the operation.
Police intelligence and investigations led to the arrest of Justice who denied the offence but after further interrogations at the Commander’s office, they both admitted committing the offence and narrated that they conspired to snatch the car to enable Rockson to cater for his university education.
