Two suspected armed robbers have been shot and killed by a police team following a robbery at a Mobile Money (MoMo) outlet in Tema Community 5 on Monday morning, April 13, 2026.
According to the Ghana Police Service, the incident occurred at about 8:30 a.m. at Aba Fosuah Plaza, where a female MoMo vendor was shot in the leg during the attack.
In a statement signed by ASP Dede Dzakpasu, Head of Public Affairs for the Tema Regional Police Command, the suspects arrived on a motorbike, with one posing as a customer seeking a cash-out transaction.
Police said the suspect pulled a pistol and demanded the victim’s bag of cash when she reached for her phone. A struggle ensued, during which the second suspect joined in. The victim was shot in the leg, allowing the attackers to take the cash and flee.
A patrol team from the Tema Regional Operations Unit intercepted the suspects near the Tema General Hospital area.
The suspects failed to stop and led the police on a chase towards the Smart Hotel area, where they opened fire on officers. Police returned fire, wounding the suspects and causing them to fall from their motorbike.
Police said the suspects were taken to the Police Hospital but were pronounced dead on arrival. Their bodies have been deposited at the mortuary for autopsy and identification.
A search conducted on the suspects led to the retrieval of GH¢11,390.00, believed to be the stolen money; a black 9mm Luger pistol loaded with four rounds of ammunition; three Android phones; assorted SIM cards; a talisman; and a Ghana Card belonging to the victim.
Police also recovered an empty bullet shell from the crime scene, suspected to have been fired from the suspects’ weapon.
The victim is reported to be in stable condition and receiving treatment.
The Ghana Police Service said it remains committed to maintaining safety and security and urged the public to report any suspicious activities.
