Two suspected armed robbers are in the grip of the Brong-Ahafo Regional Police for allegedly attacking a driver at knife point in an attempt to snatch his taxi at Nsapo near Berekum.

Briefing the GNA in Sunyani on Monday, Superintendent of Police Alhaji Maama Arhin, the Regional Crime Officer, mentioned the two suspects as Ismael Amakakye, alias Apoka, a 22-year-old spiritualist and Kwame Ofosu Ackah, 23, a farm labourer.

He said the two suspects hired a taxi on January 8 at Kwadwo-krom in the Western Region to Berekum.

On reaching Nsapo near Berekum at 0100 hours Amakakye, who was sitting at the driver’s side, drew a knife and attempted to stab him but he raised his arm and got wounded in the arm.

He said Ofosu, who was also sitting behind the driver, held his neck and Amakakye tried to remove his hand from the steering wheel forcing the taxi to veer off the road into the bush.

The driver come out of the taxi and raised an alarm which attracted people to the scene but the suspects fled into the bush.

SP Arhin said the people pursued them in the bush, arrested Ackah and sent him to the Police Station. Investigations later led to the arrest of Amakakye.
