23-year old man fined GH¢2,400 for attempted robbery

Cape Coast, May 12, GNA - A 23-year old apprentice welder, Ibrahim Adams, has been fined GH¢2,400 by a circuit court in Cape Coast on Tues= day for attempting to rob a building contractor. In default, Adams would go to prison for three years. He pleaded guilty to the charge of causing unlawful damage to a door=

and attempted robbery, but pleaded not guilty to the charge of conspiracy=

and possessing dangerous implements. The court presided over by Mr Beresford Acquah decided to sentence Adams to the fine for "saving the time of the court" on the first two counts, which are to run concurrently. Briefing the court on the facts of the case, the Prosecutor, Sergean= t Samuel Amoako said last Wednesday at about 0800 hours, the convict togeth= er with two others, Francis Boye and one Emma, who live in the same vicinity=

with the complainant, Mr Andrew Emunah at Asokyeano near Abura, attempted= to rob him (complainant). He said the three men, who were armed with a hammer, a knife, boxes of matches and a bunch of keys, tried to break into the room of the complain= ant and in the process damaged the main door leading to his rooms. Sergeant Amoako said whilst breaking into the house, some residents saw them and suspecting they were thieves, they (residents) rushed to inform the police at the Brimso Police Barrier, which is close to the house. He said the police on arrival arrested Adams while his two accomplic= es bolted.
