27-year-oldman imprisoned for stealing

The Winneba District Magistrate Court has sentenced a 27- year- old man to three months imprisonment in hard labour for stealing gas cylinders, bags of rice and a Galaxy Ace mobile phone.

The court convicted Daniel Annobil, unemployed on his own plea.

Narrating the fact of the story to the court, Police Inspector Peter Agbelie said the complainant Mr Patrick Marfo sells fried rice in Winneba.

He said in August, the complainant detected the theft of his five gas cylinders, three bags of rice and the mobile phone.

According to the prosecution, on the September 26, at about 0230 hours the complainant spotted Annobil stealing cooked rice from his restaurant and attempted to arrest him but he bolted.

He said the complainant reported the matter to the police.

The prosecution said the police arrested Annobil at his hide out in Winneba and in his cautioned statement admitted the offence.

Inspector Agbelie said Annobil mentioned one Alice Batcha a seamstress in Winneba who bought one of the cylinders and led the police to arrest her.

She admitted buying the cylinder from the convict at GH¢ 30.00. The court fined Abatcha GH¢180.00 for unlawfully receiving

Annobil led the police to retrieve another cylinder at a Gas Station in Winneba.

He told the police that he sold the mobile phone to a certain man at Sankro a community in Effutu Municipality at a price of GH¢ 50.00, and led the police to the community but the receiver was not seen to help in the investigation.

The items retrieved were handed over to the complainant as directed by the court.
