30 months imprisonment for stealing brother-in-law's 11 million

Tema, July 08, GNA -- The Tema Circuit Court 'B' on Wednesday sentenced Kofi Boakye to 30 months imprisonment for stealing his brother-in-law's eleven million cedis. Boakye, 22, was convicted on his own plea of stealing the money. The court, presided over by Mr Nicholas Mensah Abodakpi heard that, Abdulai Nassah, the complainant, who is a land agent resides with the wife and the accused at Zenu near Ashaiman.

In February this year, complainant sold a plot of land at 17 million cedis but received 12 million cedis as part payment, Police Chief Inspector Daniel Martey, prosecuting added that, Boakye was asked by the complainant to issue a receipt to the buyer to that effect which he did.

Complainant then gave 11 million cedis to the wife to deposit at the bank the following day, however, Chief Inspector Martey stated that, at day break, complainant and the wife who is the sister of Boakye could not find the money and the accused.

They therefore combed Tema and their hometown in the Central Region for him but to no avail, till June 3, 2006 when he was arrested in the same region and escorted to the Ashaiman North police station where he admitted committing the offence. Boakye, who knelt and pleaded with the sister and the complainant for forgiveness after they have consented to him been jailed told the court that he has spent all the money. 08 July 06
