4 in court for causing damage to Palace

Four people have been arraigned before the Breman Asikuma Magistrate Court, charged with conspiracy to commit crime and causing unlawful damage to the Brakwa Palace

Kwame Awudzie was remanded to re-appear on November 28, while the three others were each sentenced to a fine of GH¢ 480, and bonded to be of good behaviour for 12 months, or in default, serve six months imprisonment in hard labour.

Awudzie pleaded not guilty, while Kwame Gyekye, a.k.a. Agogoe, Abeaku, and Abass, pleaded guilty.

All the four accused persons, whose ages range between 20 and 30, are natives of Brakwa.

Prosecuting, the District Police Commander, Superintendent Alex Acquah, told the court presided over by his Worship, Clement Akwasi Asomah that on August 27, Nana Yamoah the Fourth, chief of Brakwa, was pronounced destooled by the Queen-mother Nana Yaa Asantewaa the third, and Ebusuapanyin Kobina Ebow in collaboration with the elders of the Asene Royal Family.

The prosecution said, the destooled chief attempted to renovate the palace, and on October 29, the accused persons under the command of the Abusuapanyin went to destroy the mortar being used to renovate the palace and scraped the paintings on the walls of the palace.

The prosecution said a report was made to the Police, and the four were arrested and charged with conspiracy to commit crime and causing unlawful damage.

The Magistrate used the occasion to advise that chieftaincy disputes be resolved through the Chieftaincy Secretariat.
