6 acid suspects grabbed in Bolga

Information reaching DAILY GUIDE indicates that six people have been arrested in connection with the acid attack on the Upper East Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, Adams Mahama, which led to his untimely death.

Family members of the arrested people have told DAILY GUIDE that their relatives had been detained since Monday, May 25, 2015. Others were also arrested in the early hours of Wednesday.

At the time of filing this report, the Upper East Regional Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Thomas Agbanyo, had disclosed that no one had been arrested and that the police were still after the second announced suspect, Asabke Alangdi, who is on the run.

One of the arrested persons’ relatives told DAILY GUIDE that the brother was grabbed because he was mentioned as one of the people who had meetings with Gregory Afoko days before the acid attack on Chairman Adams Mahama on Wednesday, May 20, 2015.

More than two sources close to the police in Bolgatanga also told DAILY GUIDE that apart from some persons who were invited by the police for questioning, some other persons, numbering more than five, had been detained based on information from the public and the people invited.

One other person in police grips is said to have gone to a car battery dealer days before the acid attack to enquire about the availability of acid, but was told there was none.

Even though these sources could not mention all the names of the persons in police grips, one of them is said to be a known NPP member and a brother to a former Upper East regional executive of the party. Meanwhile, DAILY GUIDE sources in Bolgatanga had mentioned some of the suspects as Jacob Haruna aka Big Zero, Ayine Ayumbire and Musah Issah.

Investigators of the case left Accra last Tuesday evening for Bolgatanga as part of the ongoing investigations into the acid attack on the late regional party chairman.

Wife of the second announced suspect, Asabke, is said to have fled for safety leaving her baby behind due to threats and pressure from sympathisers of Adams Mahama.

The baby, according to the police, had been taken to one of the Children’s Homes being supported by Afrikids, an NGO.

Although the location of the baby, per the description by the Police, has been exposed, there was no security presence at the time of filing this report, which puts the baby, management and other children at the Home in danger.
