Six males students of Effiduase Secondary Commercial School (EFFISCO) in the Sekyere East District of the Ashanti Region have been arrested on suspicion of murder following the stabbing of 18-year-old Derrick Agyei, a final-year Business Administration student of the same school.
He is thought to have been attacked in a suspected street robbery in the Effiduase community on Wednesday, September 26, 2018, around 7:30 pm, when he was in the company of his friend, Douglas Obeng, 17, to look for a place to watch a football match.
He was pronounced dead at the Effiduase Government Hospital where he was rushed to for medical attention.
So far, six men, including two dismissed students of EFFISCO, have been arrested in connection with the murder of Derrick Agyei, Effiduase District Police Commander, Superintendent Asare Bediako has revealed.
The suspects are Thomas Appiah, Bright Osei Dankwa, Kwaku Asamoah, Emmanuel Kwasi Out, Samuel Oppong Duah and Bright Owusu Acheampong.
The police commander told Kumasi-based Nhyira FM that all the suspects remained in police custody assisting in investigations after the Asante Juaben Circuit Court had remanded them to reappear on October 15, 2018.
According to Supt Bediako, two other suspects, one Essien and Eric Osei aka Opanka, who are currently on the run, are being sought for to assist police in their investigations.
He said the victim sustained a serious injury on his neck after being stabbed with a sharp object by his assailants. He and his friend had sneaked away from campus to go and watch a football match.
He stated that the deceased appeared to have struggled with his attackers when they approached Derrick Agyei and Douglas Obeng and asked them to surrender their mobile phones and monies.
The police boss asserted that the suspects robbed the deceased and his friend of GH¢7 after they had managed to overpower them, stabbing Derrick in the process.
