Sekondi, Sept. 5, GNA - A Sekondi District Magistrate Court on Monday bonded a 60-year-old farmer, Kweku Ampayim for two years or in default serve two years imprisonment for stealing a quantity of cassava. He pleaded guilty but told the court that he stole the cassava worth two thousand cedis because of hunger.
Prosecuting Police Sergeant Philip Obeng, told the court that the accused and the complainant Kobina Adamu live at Essumankrom a suburb of Sekondi.
He said as a result of rampant stealing of cassava from the farm of Maame Efua Twenwaah, she asked the community to assist her arrest the culprit.
Police Sergeant Obeng said in the morning of September 1, this year, Adamu saw the accused uprooting cassava from Maame Twenwaah's farm and raised an alarm.
The prosecution said the accused was arrested to the police station and after investigations charged with the offence.
