A seven-year-old class two pupil, Jenissi Afena Amponsah Kyeremeh, has reportedly died following a stampede at a graduation ceremony at Golden Child Academy in Berekum, Bono Region.

The incident occurred during the school’s end-of-year celebration, leading to chaos that allegedly resulted in the young girl’s death and injuries to other children.

According to adomonline.com report on July 30, 2025, the mother of the deceased, Beatrice Afena, expressed deep sorrow and anger over the school’s response.

She said she was informed of the incident by her sister and rushed to the Holy Family Catholic Hospital, where she was told her daughter had died.

“My daughter lost her life, and yet the school continued with the celebration as if nothing had happened. Till now, no official from the school has visited my family to explain to us how it happened or even show support in this hard time,” she lamented.

In response, Prophet Alex Amankona, Chairman of the school’s Parent-Teacher Association (PTA), told reporters that the school was unable to confirm any fatality until the hospital issues an official statement.

Some concerned parents, however, criticised the school’s management, accusing the proprietor of insensitivity for allowing the programme to continue despite the incident and injuries to other children.

Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident are expected to begin in coming days.
