A combined police operation by the Accra Regional Police Command and the Amasaman Police have led to the arrest, on Wednesday afternoon, of eight out of 50 land guards terrorizing residents of Abusaafish Ashalaja, near Amasaman.
The land guards, wielding guns and other offensive weapons, allegedly stormed a parcel of land at Abusaafish around 2:15pm and fired indiscriminately into the air.
Police got wind of their operation and stormed the area arresting suspects Samuel Amo, 48, Daniel Offei, 36, Frank Alluwanu, 35, Akwabu Sadiq, 39, and Bawa Issaka.
The rest are Ibrahim Bella, 56, And Yahusha Abdulai Rahaman, 30.
Items retrieved from them include eight unregistered motor bikes, one pump action gun, five live cartridges, and one used cartridge.
A caterpillar was also impounded on the land by the police.
Narrating the story to DAILY GUIDE, Chief Superintendent Frank Adufati, crime officer in charge of the Accra Regional Police Command said Amasaman police received a distress call from residents who heard several gun shots that fateful day.
Residents said the land guards, numbering about 50, had in their possession other offensive weapons, apart from the guns.
Police managed to arrest eight of the land guards while the rest escaped.
Those arrested will be sent to court for prosecution while police mount a search for the remaining 42.
