A reporter of Goaso Success FM shot dead

Mr. George Abanga, a reporter of Success FM, a community Radio Station at Goaso in the Asunafo North Municipality of Brong-Ahafo, aged 40, was on Thursday evening shot dead at Kwapong in the Asunafo South District by an unknown person(s).

The deceased popularly known as King George also reported from the area for Hello FM in Kumasi and Peace FM in Accra.

Sources indicated that Abanga was returning on his motorbike from Sankore after investigating issues relating to some missing cocoa fertilizers in the area when he was shot in the arm by his assailant(s).

The Regional Police Command, when contacted by the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Sunyani confirmed the story and stated that information reaching their outfit indicated that the late Abanga was shot by alleged armed robbers.

Superintendent Alhaji Maama Arhin, Brong- Ahafo Regional Crime Officer said Police on Thursday September 10, 2015 had information at about 1630 hours that somebody had been murdered in the area, saying Policemen therefore proceeded to the scene to take the body to the Goaso Government Hospital morgue, pending autopsy.

He stated that the Police were told some alleged armed robbers were trailing a cocoa farmer who was on a motorbike on the road from Sankore to Kwapong, adding that, the farmer was said to have cashed some amount of money from a bank at Sankore.

Supt. Arhin said “the incident is a total murder since all the deceased’s belongings were intact, including his mobile phones, pen drive and wallet containing some money”.

He said no arrest has been made, but Police were still investigating..

Abanga left behind a wife and a child.
