…Over Release of Machine Guns To Land Guards

Shell-shocked, broken and absolutely livid, the Nungua Stool, its chiefs and elders, have dragged ACP Douglas Asiedu Akrofi the Greater Accra Police Regional Commander to the High Court, over a number of contentious issues that have seen them at the receiving end of the Cop-boss’ judgment.

The plaintiffs, who are in Court against a defendant, one Joseph Obodai Torgbor originally from Aneho in Togo, who continues to peel off large parcels of Nungua-Ogbojo-Otinshi lands for sale, want the Police boss to show up in Court to answer bothering questions agitating their minds.

Consequently, they have mandated their solicitor, Mr. Andoh of Enoh-Amah Andoh & Co chambers of Accra, to put in a request in the form of a subpoena by the close of today.

Among the issues eating the chiefs and elders up are Commander Akrofi’s alleged release of 12 Pump Action Machine Guns, six of which they claim were found hidden in a nearby bush at Ogbodzo-Otinshi, and a further six that were retrieved by a Police reinforcement in a bunker at a secluded location. Previous to that, Obodai Torgbor’s land guards who occupy part of the 412.60 acreage of the Nungua Stool lands, had engaged the Police in a sporadic shoot-out that required a crack reinforcement from the regional headquarters. Yet Again, the chiefs want Commander Akrofi to explain why he reportedly retrieved the docket on the case from the CID, known as Saviour, (who was investigating the case) and released all 13 brazen-muscled land guards off from custody to breath some air of freedom.

The chiefs, led by Nii Odaifio II want Mr. Akrofi to show up in court to explain every single action of the issue, as well as produce all the land guards who, in their estimation, are still armed and therefore could cause havoc to life and property even though the law frowns upon their existence and activities.

Yet another headache remains Mr. Akrofi’s utterance on PEACE FM’s KOKROOKOO morning show programme with host, Kwame Sefa Kayi to the effect that, people could police their lands with licensed weapons for in their view, it had the propensity to create chaos.

The Chiefs have catalogued a number of disturbing issues in times past, which saw one Abu of BUILD-AF, send his men against court orders, to harass workers in the pay of the stool. Another was on the occasion of the enforcement of the bye-law on Purification and Pacification last August, which saw the Police subject elders and Nii Sakumono Wulomo to various degrees of humiliation. The disturbed and hurt Chiefs say, all these happened underneath the watchful eyes of the Police in the region, of which Mr. Akrofi is the Commander.

“And so having rolled all these happenings into one, we are demanding that the Police boss shows up in the High Court to explain himself and allay our fears,” a stool elder told THE SUN.
