Anum, Sept. 21, GNA - Nana Appiah-Kumi, Paramount chief of the Anum Traditional Area, on Friday said most of the chieftaincy disputes before the Eastern Regional House of Chief delayed because the house had no legal counsel.

He said this to the Regional Minister, Mr Kwadwo Affram Asiedu, when he paid a courtesy call on the chiefs and people of the traditional area. Nana Appiah Kumi, who is also a panel member on the committee of chieftaincy disputes in the house, said the house had engaged the services of the legal counsel of the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs who came down whenever he was free. Nana Appiah Kumi, who was responding to a plea by the minister on members of the house to speed up the several chieftaincy cases before them, said they were doing their best despite the numerous obstacles facing the house.

He appealed to the minister to ensure that all obstacles that were hindering the speedy adjudication of cases before the house were removed to bring about peace and development in the conflict areas. The regional minister pledged his support for the chiefs to dispose off all the cases peacefully.

He explained government policies to the people and urged them to embrace each policy because it was formulated for their own good. In an open forum, the people appealed for a police post at Asikuma and a court building since they had to travel to Senchi to seek redress in a law court.
