Accountant in Court for stealing

An Accountant of Unique Heritage Homes and Investment Limited who is accused of embezzling GH¢86,000 cedis belonging to his employer has appeared before an Accra Circuit Court.

Charged with stealing David Ankrah has pleaded not guilty.

Ankrah is alleged to have told the Police that he used the money for Tilapia business and bought shares in some companies which he declined to disclose.

The court presided over by Mr H.E Essandoh has admitted Ankrah to bail in the sum of GH¢86,000 cedis with two sureties one to be a public servant earning GH¢1,000 cedis.

He is expected to reappear on January 27.

Prosecuting Chief Inspector Francis Tarsan said the complainants are sales executives and head of Department of Unique Heritage Homes and Investments Limited located off the Spintex Road, Accra.

Chief Inspector Tarsan said Ankrah has been an accounts officer since February last year. On March 31, last year, the complainants detected cash receipts books with serial numbers 0000201 and 0000250 missing.

Prosecution said investigations revealed that accused person had those receipt books and had removed some of the leaflets after embezzling GH¢86,000.

According to the prosecutor, Ankrah could not account for the money and he was therefore reported to the Police.

Ankrah however refunded GH¢10,000 to the Police.

Prosecution said during Police interrogation, Ankrah indicated that he used his money for a Tilapia business and bought shares in some companies, which he has declined to disclose.

Prosecution said the company conducted audit into his accounts and it was detected that he had stolen GH¢ 86,000.
