Accounts clerk of Graphic Communication Group in court for stealing

Accra, May 28, GNA - An Accounts Clerk of Graphic Communications Group Company, Ho branch on Wednesday appeared before an Accra Circuit Court for forgery, possessing forged documents and stealing GH¢ 140,000 cash belonging to the company.

Daniel Tsali, pleaded not guilty to the three charges and the court admitted him to bail of GH¢140,000 cedis with four sureties to reappear on June 18, this year.

The Prosecutor, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mr. George Abavelim told the court that the complainant was Mr. Ibrahim Mohammed Awal, Managing Director of Graphic Group of Communications. ASP Abavelim said in April this year, while the company was preparing its account books for 2007 Financial Audit, it was detected that between January 2007 and March 2008, and amount of GH¢ 140,000, which the suspect had collected from vendors, and agents of the company was not lodged at the bank.

Prosecution said Tsali however, presented fake pay in slips to show that he had deposited the said amounts in the bank. On May 19, this year Tsali who went into hiding after being alerted that the police were after him went to the Criminal Investigations Department of the Police Service. ASP Abavelim said police investigations however revealed that Tsali secured a stamp similar to that of the Ghana Commercial Bank, Ho Branch and stamped various pay slips amounting to GH¢ 140,000. The prosecutor said Tsali also forged signatures purported to be that of Tellers of the bank and presented them to the head office of the company and he could not offer any tangible explanation to his actions.
