Accra, June 25, GNA - For teaming up with two others to rob people on the Accra Tema Motorway, an Accra Circuit Court on Wednesday sentenced Kwadwo Atitso, unemployed to 12 years imprisonment in hard labour. Atitso, 24, pleaded guilty to the charge of preparing to commit crimes. In his explanation, Atitso said that was the kind of job he has been doing over the years.

According to him, he together with one lady known as "Mother" and another man, both at large stood at the Tema Motorway in the night and allow the lady among them to pose as a prostitute. "As soon as the lady is approached by men and agreed on the venue for sex, they attack and rob him of his money," he added. Chief Inspector Stephen Baidoo told the court that on June 1, this year at about 2130 hours the National Highway Patrol Team on duty on the Tema Motorway arrested Atitso about 400 meter from Ashaiman Overhead bridge, heading towards the Spintex road. According to the prosecutor, Atitso was in the company of another gentleman and lady.

When the team enquired about their mission at the spot the lady and the gentlemen bolted but they managed to arrest Atitso. Prosecution said during a search, one cutlass was found concealed in his trousers.

In his explanation, the convict said he and his accomplices lurked around the motorway to rob people. According to the convict, he knew the lady as a prostitute and that she (the lady) called her to accompany him to the Spintex road so that if any man expressed interest in having sex with her and after choosing the venue for the sex, he and the gentlemen would attack and rob him of his monies.
