Cape Coast, June 1, GNA - Richard Arthur Payne, the 42-year-old mathematics tutor of Adisadel College, who allegedly sodomized five students of the school was on Wednesday remanded in police custody by a circuit court in Cape Coast. The court, presided over by Mr Samuel Asare Nyarko, did not take his plea and asked that he be re-arraigned on Friday, June 10, to allow the police enough time to carry out its investigations. This was after his counsel, Mr Michael Arthur-Dadzie had made a desperate attempt to secure bail for him but the court turned him down with the reason that it does not want to interfere with police investigations. Chief Inspector Kingsford Francis Ockom, prosecuting, told the court that, on Monday, May 16, 2011, the complainant, Mr Albert Graham, headmaster of Adisadel College, had information that the accused have been having unnatural carnal knowledge of some of the students and he reported the matter to the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) in Cape Coast. He said the police then initiated its investigations and had him arrested on Monday May 30.
