The Akropong police have arrested David Ofosu, an activist of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) for attacking a registration officer at Nsuta registration centre in the Okere constituency.
Briefing the Ghana News Agency in a telephone interview on Sunday, the Akropong Divisional Police Commander, Mr Owusu Nsiah said, on Tuesday April 17, some people numbering about 33 went to the registration center to register but the agents of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) suspected them to be imported from Yilo Krobo and thereby challenged them.
He said after they had gone through the registration processes, their voter identification cards were not given to them as the law demands.
Mr Owusu Nsiah said this infuriated the NDC agents there who demanded that the cards be released to them, but the registration officer refused.
Ofosu then jumped on the registration officer and attacked him, and in the process managed to take away all the 33 cards and left to his house.
Mr Owusu Nsiah said a report was made to his outfit and they quickly contacted Ofosu to bring the cards, but he refused.
He said on Thursday Ofosu was arrested and the police managed to retrieve all the 33 cards from him.
Mr Owusu Nsiah said the suspect would be arraigned in court on Monday.
