Armed gang raids over 5 gold shops at Teleku-Bokazo, injuring three

Panic gripped residents of Teleku-Bokazo in the Elembelle Municipality after a heavily armed gang carried out a daylight robbery, targeting at least five gold-buying shops in a coordinated operation.

The incident occurred around 5:30 PM on Wednesday, when about seven men dressed in black, and armed with guns, stormed the town, firing warning shots into the air.

According to a 3news.com report on July 31, 2025, eyewitnesses said the gang, described as heavily built and aggressive, moved from shop to shop, brutalising occupants, smashing safes, and making away with large sums of monies and quantities of gold.

After attacking the gold shops, the robbers reportedly turned their attention to a phone shop in the area, where they stole dozens of mobile phones and an undisclosed amount of cash.

Three people were injured during the raid, which has left many residents in shock and fear.

According to the report, some community members were called upon to provide increased security in the area.

The Elembelle District Police Command has since deployed officers to the scene, and a manhunt is underway to apprehend the suspects.
