Koforidua, May 5, GNA - Three suspected armed robbers standing trial before a Koforidua High Court over the robbery of 120 million cedis, told the court on Wednesday that they have been unable to obtain the services of a lawyer due to prejudicial media reports against them.

The three accused persons, Twum Ampofo, 26, alias "Onua Play Boy"; Yaw Boakye, 34 and Kwaku Reuben, alias "Mogya", all pleaded not guilty to two counts of conspiracy to rob and robbery.

Mr Justice Francis Korbieh granted Ampofo a day's adjournment when he said he could not cross-examine the complainant because he was indisposed.

A Senior State Attorney, Mrs Emily Addo-Okyireh told the Court that in February, this year, the three accused persons and three others at-large, attacked one Mr Osei Kwadwo, a fuel dealer and Madam Augustina Owusu Adjei and robbed them of the money.

She said Mr Osei, who worked with Madam Adjei at a Mobil Filling station at Koforidua, closed from work and drove home but just as they were about to enter their house, at about 2200 hours, six armed men, who had laid ambush, attacked them and took away the amount.

Mrs Addo-Okyireh said another two million cedis belonging to Madam Adjei, a mobile phone, a pair of jeans and some jewels were also taken away.

She said in the process, the robbers threw a young girl, who was with the complainant in the car, into the bush before escaping. The Prosecutor said the complainant identified Ampofo, who was arrested with the others from their hide out.
