Four women have been raped in turns while about 25 women were robbed of various sums and other belongings by suspected nomadic Fulani herdsmen at Anyinasu in the Sekyere Afram Plains District of Ashanti Region MyNewsGh.com can report.
The victims mostly traders according to reports, were returning from Simpoa in the Kwahu East District of Eastern Region when they were attacked at gunpoint in the middle of the road and subjected to the horrendous ordeal by their assailants.
Incidents of robberies and rape involving these herdsmen have occasionally been recorded in the district for some time now with the District Security Committee heightening surveillance to arrest perpetrators but to no avail.
Some of victims who spoke to MyNewsgh.com said the herdsmen with weapons threatened to kill them if the proved stubborn and succeeded in taking their money and other properties belonging to them while they laid prostrate on the floor.
According to them, the Fulani herdsmen forcibly slept with four of the market women at gunpoint reiterating their threat to shoot and kill those who resisted and after the act bolted with their booty into surrounding bushes.
The District Chief Executive for Sekyere Afram Plains in the Ashanti Region Hon. Joseph Owusu, aka Odenkyem confirmed the unfortunate incident to MyNewsGh.com and revealed that the incident happened on Thursday night.
He expressed worry about the increasing rate of crime in the area involving these Fulanis in the wake of destruction their cattle is causing to farms of indigenes indicating that the District Security Committee which he chairs, is awaiting doctors’ report to confirm the rape allegation but said no arrest has since been made.
Meanwhile, police in the area have commenced investigations into the matter.
