Residents of Asante Mampong in the Ashanti Region have been left in shock following the arrest of a 12-year-old for leading a robbery operation in the area, MyNewsGh.com reports.
The suspect whose identity has been concealed by the police in view of his age, was arrested together with a 19-year-old identified as Kwame Frimpong for laying ambush and robbing students of the Mampong Midwifery and Nursing Training College.
According to Mampong Divisional Motor Transport and Traffic Directorate (MTTD) Commander, Superintendent Isaac Baah, the armed suspects always hide under the cover of darkness to attack their victims who are students.
Both suspects he added have since been released on bail after being identified by some of the victims as persons said to be terrorizing students on the campus.
He however expressed shock that the victims refused to cooperate with the police to thoroughly investigate the matter which is why his outfit was compelled in the first place to grant the suspects bail.
It would be recalled that armed men earlier this year were reported to have in a similar fashion stormed one of the school’s hostels and robbed students of their cash, mobile phones and other items compelling the police to heighten surveillance around the school.
Based on this, police had a tip-off that the two were notorious in the act leading to their arrest and were identified and confirmed by some of the students as their attackers.
Meanwhile, a 6pm to 6am police patrol team has been permanently stationed at the school with Community Police Assistants assigned to all hostels to guard and escort the students to and from classes at night to avert the recurring robberies.
