Kumasi, Nov. 17, GNA - The Police in Ashanti Region arrested 90 suspected armed robbers between May and September this year, the Ashanti Regional Police Command has stated.

A break down of the trend of arrests showed that the highest arrest of 31 was made in September, while 11, 20, 26 and two arrests were made in May, June, July and August respectively.

A statement issued by the Ashanti Regional Police Administration and signed by Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Mr. S.C Oteng, the Deputy Regional Police Commander said all those arrested, were suspected to have been involved in residential, highway, car and street robberies. ACP Oteng said 138 locally manufactured guns, 45 knives and cutlasses were seized from the suspects.

The statement reiterated the Regional Police Command's determination to wage a relentless war on armed robbery and deal ruthlessly with the perpetrators since they were bent on making life unbearable for the people.

The Regional Police Command therefore, appealed to the public to assist the police with vital and accurate information that would lead to the arrest of armed robbers and other syndicated criminals. ACP Oteng urged victims and witnesses to armed robberies and other syndicated crimes to endeavour to assist the police at both the investigation and prosecution stages with evidence that would warrant conviction of the miscreants.

The statement assured the public that the police would religiously protect the identity of informants in order not to expose them to danger and in the long run thwart the fight against crime. The police administration urged parents to regulate the movement of their children and wards so that they would not follow bad company and become criminals.
