Two suspected robbers belonging to separate robbery gangs operating in the Kumasi metropolis have been arrested and are being held by the police.

Peter Aminga alias “Naa Nega," 36, and Jeffey Appiah, 18, and their gangs are said to have carried out attacks at different locations and time.

Police Chief Superintendent Peter Baba, the Ashanti Regional Crime Officer, told the media that a security man was killed in a robbery incident in which Aminga has confessed to taking part in at Hill Top, an upscale area at Ohwimase.

He and his fugitive colleagues had attacked a private property on March 29, and he was captured on close circuit television (CCTV) footage.

This assisted the police to track him down at his Atwima-Koforidua hideout.

Chief Supt. Baba said two live bullets, hand gloves and large quantity of dried leaves believed to be cannabis were retrieved from him.

Appiah and his gang on their part robbed one Pastor Asare Bediako and his family at Dompoase-Kuwait on March 5.

They were said to have struck at about 0220 hours, raped the pastor’s 16-year-old daughter and fled with cash of Ghc700.00 and three mobile phones.

The Crime Officer said through intelligence gathering, vigilance and public cooperation, robbery was now on the decline in the region, sharply contradicting media reports about rising robberies in the Bosomtwe District.

He appealed to journalists to cross-check their information with the police to avoid creating unnecessary public panic.
