Assemblyman granted GH¢5,000 bail for fighting

Isaac Oduro Mensah, the Assemblyman of the Adisadel Estate Area, who slapped a toilet attendant was on Thursday granted bail in the sum of GH¢5,000.00 with surety by a Cape Coast Magistrate’s Court.

Mensah pleaded not guilty to two counts of offensive conduct and assault and will be back in court on Wednesday, April 11.

Sergeant Samuel Amoako told the court presided over by Mr Kwaku Ohemeng Mensah that the complainant Mrs Sarah Hayford, is the public toilet attendant at the Adisadel Estate Area in Cape Coast.

He said Mrs Hayford had been managing the public toilet since 2009 and collects one Ghana Cedi as fees from users on each visit.

Sergeant Amoako said people in the area were unwilling to pay the toilet use fees with the reason that it was too expensive and the matter was reported to the Cape Coast Metropolitan Environmental Officer.

He said on Wednesday, February 8, Mensah and Mrs Hayford met at the house of one Mr Anthony Quansah to settle the matter but they could not reach a consensus and Mrs Hayford decided to leave the meeting and this infuriated Mensah who assaulted her verbally.

Sergeant Amoako said a quarrel later generated between the two and in the process the Assemblyman slapped Mrs Hayford who reported the matter to the police.
