Accra, July 19, GNA - An Auctioneer, who is accused of defrauding a Sales Manager of 100 million cedis under the pretext of supplying him with three generators, was on Wednesday put before an Accra Regional Tribunal.

Adjei Doku, the auctioneer, pleaded not guilty and was admitted to 150 million cidis bail with a surety to be justified. The Police told the tribunal that in April 2006, Doku approached Mr Kwame Gyan Tawiah, who is the Sales Manager of Tractor and Equipment Company, and promised to supply him with three generators if he could part with the said amount.

The Police said Mr Tawiah gave Doku three post-dated cheques, two of which he cashed.

Doku after withdrawing the money allegedly went into hiding, until June 28 2006 when he was arrested at Atico, a suburb of Accra. In his caution statement, Doku told the Police that he had invested the money in his business and, therefore, needed time to make a refund.
