Auto mechanic jailed five years for stealing

Juaso (Ash), Nov. 29, GNA - A 21-year-old auto mechanic apprentice, Kwadwo Quartey, has been sentenced to five years' imprisonment in hard labour by the Juaso Circuit Court for stealing personal effects valued at GH=A289.50 belonging to his friend. He pleaded guilty to two counts of unlawful entry and stealing and was convicted on his own plea. Police Chief Inspector Kippo Iddrisu Mahama, prosecuting, told the court, presided over by Mr Jacob Boon that the complainant, Atsu Ahorsu was a friend of the accused, both of whom lived at Juaso. He said on September 16, the complainant, who spent the previous night together with Quartey in his room went to see a friend nearby leaving the accused alone in the room. According to the prosecutor, the complainant returned later only to discover the accused had bolted with his tape recorder, two pairs of jeans trousers and three T-shirts valued at GH=A289.5. Chief Inspector Mahama said Quartey went into hiding and resurfaced on November 15 and was arrested. In his caution statement, the accused admitted stealing and selling the items.
