Auto-mechanic with fake cedis remanded

A 19-year old, Malik Salim, an auto-mechanic, has been remanded into custody for possessing fake 50 Ghana Cedi notes amounting to GH¢500 by a Wassa Akropong Magistrate Court.

The accused person was charged for possessing fake currency notes and would to re-appear in court on Tuesday, March 22.

The District Police Commander for Wassa Amenfi East, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Mr. Isaac Kumnipa, told the Ghana News Agency on Thursday that, the accused was arrested by the Assembly Member for Wassa Bibianiha Electoral Area, Mr. John Boadi on Sunday, March 13, 2016.

He said the accused was handed over to the Wassa Akropong Police and who arraigned him on Tuesday, March 15, and had since been remanded into police custody.

ASP Kumnipa said Salim who repairs motorbikes in the community, claimed somebody paid him with the amount after repairing the client’s motorbike and was therefore assisting the police in their investigations.

He therefore advised Ghanaians to be vigilant whenever they receive payment for any business transaction to avoid being paid with fake currency notes.
