Koforidua, July 24, GNA- Kingmakers at Awukugua in the Akuapem Traditional Area have filed a writ of contempt in the Koforidua High Court, against Nana Asare Brempong II, Awukuguahene.

In an affidavit supporting the motion, the applicants said on October 1999 the Traditional Council gave judgement in their favour restraining Nana Brempong from calling himself chief of Awukugua. The affidavit said not satisfied, Nana Brempong filed a writ in the Koforidua High Court challenging the judgement given by the Traditional Council but the case was struck out.

That after the case had been struck out; Nana Brempong continues to declare himself chief of Awukugua.

The affidavit said as a result of that the Asabihene, Nana Kwasi Akyea and Nana Aduanahene, Kwaku Addae; both kingmakers brought contempt action against him.

That the Ajimane clan are the kingmakers of Awukugua and are fully aware that Nana Brempong is legally and traditionally not the chief of Awukugua, but "because he is disrespectful, he continues to hold himself as such".

The affidavit said Nana Brempong had sold almost all the stool lands but refused to account to anybody. That monies meant for the development of the township had also been squandered.
