A national security operative with the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) has been arrested by the police for car snatching.

The suspect, Gabriel Yao Aggey, 52, had been on the wanted list of the police for the past two-and-a-half years, according to sources.

Aggey, who is believed to be stationed at the Flagstaff House, is reported to have bolted with a rented Toyota V8 Land Cruiser with registration number GE 5086-12 on February 22, 2015 from the Saint Michael Car Rental near the Kumasi Airport.

Police sources say the suspect went to the car rental posing as a staff of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC).

With a chauffeur, Aggey was expected to use the vehicle between Kumasi and new Abirem in the Eastern Region for three days, but he ended up at Agbozume at the Omega Hotel in the Volta Region where he allegedly snatched the keys from the driver and took the vehicle to Aflao.

The suspect’s modus operandi, according to the police, had been to rent cars, drive them far away, re-spray and sell them to unsuspecting people.

However, luck eluded Aggey in that operation when he was arrested by the police in Accra and sent to the Agbozume police station.

Sources say the supposed national security operative, who is currently standing trial before an Aflao Circuit Court, has been remanded into custody.

Meanwhile, DAILY GUIDE has gathered that investigations into the case are not yet over.

A police source said Aggey perpetrated the act with some other accomplices the police had mounted a search for.
