Andrews Kyeremeh, a Micro-Finance Officer of the Fiagya Rural Bank at Nkoranza, in the Brong-Ahafo Region, is said to have misappropriated over ?1billion.

Kyeremeh, who was stationed at the Techiman branch of the bank, is said to have conspired to do this with another member of staff, Ameyaw Dwomoh.

Kyeremeh has absconded, whilst Dwomoh has been granted police enquiry bail.

Dr. Kwasi Nsiah-Gyabaah, Principal of Sunyani Polytechnic and Board Chairman of the bank, confirmed this to the Times, and said the police are trying to locate Kyeremeh.

He said that Kyeremeh managed to get a number of the bank?s customers to thumbprint applications for loans of about ?100 million each.

?He took receipt of the money himself on the pretext of discussion the loans with the customers, then he gave each customer about ?20 million and pocketed the rest.?

Kyeremeh was said also to have gone round collecting ?susu? contributions from customers and then failed to pay them into the banks? coffers, Dr. Nsiah-Gyabaah added. The Board Chairman said the scam was eventually exposed when the bank transferred Kyeremeh from the branch at Busunya, in Nkoranza, to Techiman.

Realising that he would be exposed, Kyeremeh absconded, which prompted the management to audit his account.
