Barber remanded over defilement

A barber, who is accused of defiling a 14- year- old girl at Klagon near Sakumono in Accra, on Tuesday appeared before an Accra Circuit Court.

Charged with defilement, Richard Asiam pleaded not guilty.

The court presided over by Mr Aboagye Tandoh remanded Asiam into lawful custody to reappear on August 12.

Prosecuting Chief Inspector Grace Bandoh narrated that the complainant is a driver and the father of the victim. The complainant, victim and accused person reside at Klagon.

Chief Inspector Bandoh said one month ago, the complainant warned the accused person to cut off any friendship with the victim since he was not convinced about the relationship.

Strangely Asiam arranged a meeting with the victim and on July 28, at about 12:00 am, the victim sneaked out of the house and went to Asiam and had sexual intercourse with her.

Prosecution said at about 3:30am the same day, complainant caught the victim when she returned from Asiam’s room. When the complainant quizzed the victim over where she had been, she mentioned the name of Asiam.

According to the victim, Asiam had sexual intercourse with her.

Chief Inspector Bandoh said Asiam was arrested and a medical form was issued to the victim to attend hospital so she could be examined and treated.

According to prosecution Asiam in his caution statement admitted the offence.
