Kumasi, Oct. 13, GNA - A 31-year-old beef seller has been sentenced to 30 years imprisonment by a Kumasi Circuit Court for defiling two young girls aged nine and 11.

Joe Anyass pleaded guilty to the offence.

Police Chief Inspector Comfort Baffuor-Kyei told the Court presided over by Mr Justice Emmanuel Amoh-Yartey, that the convict resided at Ahinsan and sells meat at Akwatia-line in Kumasi, the place where the victims lived with their parents.

He said the young girls were not only neighbours but they attended the same school and that the place where the victims drew water was close to where Anyass plied his trade. Chief Inspector Baffuor-Kyei said the convict succeeded in luring them at different times and sexually abused them. The crime came to light when the eleven-year-old fell sick on September 24, whilst in school and was asked by her teacher to go home. She said the next day the mother took her to the Manhyia Government Hospital, where she made known her ordeal. Police Chief Inspector Baffuor-Kyei said a formal complaint was made to the Manhyia Police Division of the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU). She said police investigations uncovered the case of the nine-year-old victim and that signed medical reports by doctors who examined the young girls confirmed they had been defiled. Anyass in his caution statement admitted the offence. 13 Oct. 09
