A reportedly notorious armed robber, who goes by the nickname Bishop, has finally been smoked out from his hideout by the police in Kumasi.
The suspected hoodlum, whose real name is Nuru Salifu, is considered as one of the deadly young robbers in the Ashanti Region at the moment.
He is said to be a trigger-happy chap who easily shoots at his victims, especially those who refuse to yield to his desires during his robbery attacks.
The Ashanti Regional Police Command, which has recently flushed out key criminals in the region, finally nabbed him upon a tip-off.
Deputy Ashanti Regional Police Commander, ACP Ampofo Duku, who was addressing the media, described Nuru Salifu’s arrest as a major breakthrough for the police.
He said Bishop, who is very popular among the criminals in the city, had been terrorizing the people of Sawaba and Asokore Mampong for some time now.
ACP Duku disclosed that Bishop, who was possessing offensive weapons, attacked a filling station at Asokore Mampong recently.
According to him, during that robbery expedition, Nuru Salifu fired a gunshot into the left thigh of the security man at the filling station.
The notorious robber then robbed the filling station of its money and other valuable items before vanishing into thin air.
The police capo added that Bishop went into hiding for some time after the attack on the filling station before striking again recently.
ACP Duku said Bishop’s latest attack was when he blocked the Sawaba/Asokore Mampong road and robbed at gunpoint people who plied the road.
He disclosed that the police quickly moved to arrest Bishop in his hideout after a Good Samaritan had give them a tip-off.
