Boy remanded for stabbing neighbour to death

Sunyani, Mar. 9, GNA - The Sunyani Magistrate Court on Tuesday remanded an 18-year-old unemployed boy into prison custody for allegedly killing someone with a knife at Berekum in Brong-Ahafo. The plea of Stephen Okyere was not taken on the charge of murder and was ordered to re-appear on March 31, this year.

Prosecuting, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Alex Yartey Tawiah told the court presided over by Mr Joseph Robert Quanson that the accused and the Kwame Frimpong lived in the same vicinity at Berekum. He said at about 1600 hours on February 25, this year, Okyere parked his bicycle in front of the deceased's house and left for town. On his return the accused could not find the bike and he suspected that the deceased and a witness in the case, who were present when he parked the bicycle had stolen it.

He said Okyere confronted the deceased, accusing him of stealing and this resulted in a heated argument but they were separated. According to the prosecutor, Okyere later chased the deceased, who was on his way to a brother's wedding ceremony and stabbed him on the base of his neck with a jack knife.

Okyere pulled out the knife and licked the blood whilst the deceased fell and bled profusely.

ASP Yartey-Tawiah said the deceased died on the way whilst being rushed to hospital and the case was reported to the police, who arrested the accused at his hideout at Benkasa, near Berekum.
