Brong Ahafo House of Chiefs Judicial Committee upholds appeal

Sunyani, Oct. 12, GNA - The Judicial Committee of the Brong Ahafo Regional House of Chiefs has upheld an appeal by Nana Abena Kwabena, Queen mother of Ampona in the Nkoranza Traditional Area, and four others in a chieftaincy dispute and awarded GH¢500 costs in their favour. The four others were Kwaku Oduro, a claimant to the Ampona stool, Kwabena Effah of Ampona, Nana Owusu, Asokorhene of Nkoranza and Nana James Effah Owusu of Ampona.

Sunyani, Oct. 12, GNA - The Judicial Committee of the Brong Ahafo Regional House of Chiefs has upheld an appeal by Nana Abena Kwabena, Queen mother of Ampona in the Nkoranza Traditional Area, and four others in a chieftaincy dispute and awarded GH¢500 costs in their favour. The four others were Kwaku Oduro, a claimant to the Ampona stool, Kwabena Effah of Ampona, Nana Owusu, Asokorhene of Nkoranza and Nana James Effah Owusu of Ampona. The respondents were Nana Yaw Owusu, Boanahene, Nana Sikayena, Bodom Dadieasehene, Nana Kofi Anto, head of Ampona royal family for themselves and Ampona royal family of Yefri. Giving its ruling, the committee presided over by Nana Bosoma Asor Nkrawiri, Sunyanihene, noted that the respondents were duly served with all the necessary processes as well as written submission but had not replied. "In the circumstance, the panel hereby upholds the appeal of the appellants. Full reasons of the panel will be given later and GH¢500 costs is awarded in favour of the appellants and against the respondents", the committee ruled. The Nkoranza Traditional Council on January 16, 2001 gave a 2-1 verdict in favour of the respondents in the chieftaincy case but the queen mother and her group made the appeal to the regional house of chiefs.
