Asamankese, May 25, GNA- A circuit at Asamankese remanded Kingsley Darko, who claimed to be a businessman, for allegedly robbing Nana Dali of 298 Ghana cedis. Darko who pleaded not guilty would re-appear at court on June 10. Police Chief Inspector Joseph Idan told the court presided over by Mr Kofi Akrowiah that on February 25, last year, the accuse3d robbed Nana Dali who dealt in food stuffs and oil palm of the amount at knife point.
Prosecution said the complainant who lived at Kyekyewere was returning home from Accra after selling food stuff but stopped at Mepom 2100 hours and continued the journey by foot because there was no vehicle going to his destination. Chief Inspector Idah said Darko armed with a knife emerged from the bush, attacked the complainant and the woman and snatched his bag containing the money. Prosecution said complainant escaped to Mepom and informed the police about the incident.
Chief Inspector Darko said when the youth of the town heard about the robbery they boarded a bus bound for Accra with the intention of arresting the accused whom they suspected was escaping to the city. Prosecution said the accused stopped the bus and boarded it but the complainant identified him and he was apprehended. When he was searched, 256 Ghana Cedis were found on him and he was handed over to the police at Asamankese. Chief Inspector Idah said when interrogated, the accused admitted the offence and said he robbed Darko because he was in financial difficulties.
