Kumasi (Ash), Dec. 7, GNA- A magistrate's court in Kumasi presided over by Mr S.K. Achina, on Thursday, imposed a fine of GH=A2250 (2.5 Million) on a butcher for stealing a mobile phone. Bismark Ayembora, who pleaded guilty to the offence, will go to jail for 18 months in hard labour in default.

Police Inspector Matilda Okutu told the court that the complainant, Cambet Koda lived with the convict at the Race Course area in Kumasi. Inspector Okutu said last month, both the complainant and the convict attended a friend's funeral at the Race Course. Prosecution said the convict stole the mobile phone that worth GH=A280 from the complainant, who felt asleep at the funeral. Inspector Okutu said when the complainant woke-up from sleep and couldn't find the phone, he confronted the convict but he denied knowledge of the phone.

The prosecutor said that as soon as the complainant left the scene, the convict sold the phone to another person at the GH=A21 (10,000). Inspector Okutu said the complainant used a different phone to call his phone number, and when the buyer received the call, he confronted the convict for selling a stolen phone to him. 7 Dec. 07
