Aflao, Aug. 30, GNA - Evans Gu, a Senior Customs Excise and Preventive Service (CEPS) officer, has appeared before a circuit court in Aflao on Monday for causing harm.

His plea was not taken and was granted a five million cedi bail with a surety to re-appear on September 18, this year. Police Inspector Mrs Mary Assan told the court presided over by Group Captain Martin Obeng-Ntim (Rtd) that the victim Madam Faustina Eworho, 35, lived and sold cooked food at Aflao where Gu is also stationed.

He said in the afternoon of May 22, this year, Eworho among other commuters arrived at the arrival hall in Ghana from Lome, Togo with a food basket containing tomatoes and lettuce for her business. Mrs Assan said Gu called back Eworho who had passed where he was positioned in the hall, rebuked her for refusing to stop for the examination of her wares.

She said Eworho denied hearing him call and which process Gu gave her a slap on the face and the woman threatened reporting his conduct for action.

Mrs Assan said Eworho's remark enraged Gu, who held her by the right arm pulling her with the intent to lock her up. Eworho resisted by holding on to an iron bar and in the process Gu hit her with his fist in the left arm fracturing it above the elbow. Realising the harm caused, Gu rushed the woman to the Aflao hospital where she was admitted.

Eworho is still receiving treatment at a bone treatment centre at Akatsi.
