Dabala (V/R), Dec. 18, GNA - A total of 1,120 pieces of wax prints valued at 562.4 million cedis allegedly smuggled from Togo was impounded when the bus conveying them to Accra was intercepted by officials of Customs, Excise and Preventive Service (CEPS) on Sunday night near Akatsi in Volta region.

Occupants of the bus, except the driver, fled into the dark after a Customs Task Force gave it a hot chase, following a tip off. Briefing the Ghana News Agency, Mr Ben Suuri, Chief Collector in-charge of Preventive Operation Duties for the area, estimated duty liability of the goods to be 224.9 million cedis.

Mr Suuri said no one had yet claimed ownership of the goods, which has been forfeited to the state according to the law banning overland importation of wax prints.
