CEPS intercepts bus with smuggled wax prints

Dabala (V/R), Nov. 28, GNA- Officials of Customs, Excise and Preventive Service (CEPS) from the Dabala check point on Tuesday intercepted a Benz bus between Akatsi and Dabala on the Aflao-Accra highway loaded with 724 pieces of wax prints smuggled from Lome, upon a tip off. The value of the goods was put at 363.5 million cedis and duty liabilities of 145.4 million cedis. The driver, the only occupant of the vehicle, with registration number GR8335 V, whose name is being withheld, is in custody. No one has yet claimed ownership of and the vehicle with registration number GR 8335 V impounded, Mr Ben Suuri a Chief Collector in-charge of the Dabala Chief check point told the Ghana News Agency (GNA).

He said following the tip-off, a team of CEPS personnel was dispatched to intercept the vehicle, which it did a distance before Akatsi. Mr Suuri said vigilance against smugglers had been stepped up along the highway, on the Volta River near Sogakope as traders often take advantage of the high demand for consumer goods, days before the Christmas. 28 Nov. 2006
