The Akim Oda magistrate court in the Eastern Region, presided over by Appiatse Abaido, has remanded two persons suspected to have conspired to murder a taxi driver, Eric Kofi Nartey, into prison custody to reappear in court on 30th August, 2016.

They were busted by personnel of the Oda Divisional Police Command.

The Commander, Superintendent Ebenezer Ampofo, briefing DAILY GUIDE on the matter, said his outfit led a team of policemen to the crime scene and found the deceased (Eric Kofi Nartey), 42 years old, in a supine position close to his taxi – Kia Piccanto, with registration number GW 9380 – 16.

According to the police, the cabbie was then rushed to the Akim Oda Government Hospital but was pronounced dead by the medical doctor. The body has been deposited at the same facility waiting for autopsy.

The police chief stated that when the suspects and the cabbie reached the house, one of the suspects hit the driver with a club, with the motive of snatching the taxi from him. Superintendent Ampofo added that the cabbie managed to scream and a mob rushed into the house but the assailants managed to escape.

The mob, according to the police, set the house ablaze, thinking the culprits were hiding there. After all efforts by the police to restrain them had failed, military personnel from Akim Achiase were called in to help. Fire fighters were also called to put off the fire.
