Nicholas Nii Quaye Kortey, a Carpenter, has appeared before an Accra Circuit Court for abetment of crime.

Nicholas was said to have aided and abetted, Aaron Apau, Gator Joseph, Emmanuel Tetteh and Ato Quaye now deceased, to commit a crime at Dansoman in Accra.

The accused pleaded not guilty, but was remanded into prison custody to reappear on September 2.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Patrick Morkeh presenting the facts of the case said during September 2012, Mr Kan Dapaah, the complainant, was attacked by armed robbers.

He said an in-depth investigation led to the arrest of Apau in Domaa Ahenkro in the Brong Ahafo Region, and Gator in Accra while Quaye lost his life in a battle with the police.

One Emmanuel Tetteh is still on the run.

DSP Morkeh said during interrogation, the suspects confessed to the police that their source of weapon was the accused, Nicholas, also known as Cobra.

He said based on the information, a manhunt was initiated for Nicholas to get him to answer the allegations against him.

He said a team of policemen went to his house but met his absence, and a message was left with his wife to warn him to report to the Accra Regional Command to assist in an investigation, but he rather went into hiding.

The prosecution told the court that luck eluded him when he was arrested on July 30.

He said it was later discovered that the accused was behind most of the robberies committed by Aaron and his group, including attacks on foreigners at the beginning of 2013, which led to three expatriates being shot and had to be flown out for treatment.
