Carpenter jailed 18 years for defilement

The Kumasi-Based Gender Violence Court, presided over by Mrs. Rita Agyeman-Budu, has slapped a 33-year-old carpenter with an 18-year jail term in hard labour for having sex with a 14-year-old.

Kwaku Adjei did not deny the offence.

Police Chief Inspector Rose Essuman told the Court that the victim lived with her cousin, the complainant in the Atwima- Akyeremade community.

At about 1930 hours on April 23, the complainant asked the girl to send a flash light to the convict’s wife.

The rain started immediately the victim got to the house of the convict and so she was compelled to wait in his room together with his wife for the rain to stop before returning home.

Adjei hatched a plan and so went out through the rain and hid in an uncompleted house.

Moments later when the rain subsided and the girl was returning home, Adjei emerged, pounced on her and carried her on his shoulders to the uncompleted building where he forcibly had bouts of sexual intercourse with her.

After satisfying himself, he released the girl, who run to inform the complainant and a formal report was made to the police leading to his arrest.

A medical form signed by doctors at the Kwadaso S.D.A Hospital confirmed that the victim had been defiled.
